Bessemer Venture Partners promotes Mary D'Onofrio to Vice President
Mary D’Onofrio is an architect behind the firm’s growth efforts.
Bessemer has a long tradition of investing in people who strive to make an impact on the world—primarily its founders, but also its own investors. In that same spirit, we are excited to announce the promotion of Mary D’Onofrio to vice president, who has been instrumental in building our growth efforts and investing in category-defining cloud companies, such as Hyperscience, LaunchDarkly, HashiCorp, and BigID from our $525 million dedicated growth fund.
Mary joined the firm in 2018 to build the growth-investing infrastructure, including its financial models, competitive sets and benchmarks, and investment evaluation strategy. Her ongoing research on private and public cloud companies helps founders and venture investors value individual companies and markets. She recently published the Cash Conversion Score, a new business metric for cloud companies proving to be an indicator of company returns. In addition, she’s a primary contributor to the BVP Nasdaq Emerging Cloud Index, which serves as a benchmark for public cloud companies, as well as a co-author of the 10 laws of cloud computing and State of the Cloud 2020.
"Mary has distinguished herself through her diligence, supreme work ethic, and deep understanding of cloud principles and how they play out in our portfolio. Our entrepreneurs and colleagues are fortunate to benefit from her expertise," says Byron Deeter. "She has also helped lay the foundational bricks for our firm's growth-stage investments.”
“Mary is one of venture capital's go-to experts on private and public markets, especially in regards to emerging and high growth technology businesses," says Elliott Robinson. "She played an invaluable role in driving the firm's largest net new investment to date in 2020, and most importantly, leads with a kind and generous spirit when working with her colleagues and entrepreneurs.”
Mary serves as a board member or observer for Hyperscience, BigID, Reputation, GetInsured, Tile, and Retail Solutions, and she is also involved with Bessemer portfolio companies LaunchDarkly, Auth0, Guild Education, Zapier, and nCino.
“Mary is thoughtful about measuring business performance in a way that helps us better understand where the business would benefit the most from further investment. Moreover, her understanding of the landscape continues to help us outmaneuver would-be competitors,” said Peter Brodsky, the CEO and co-founder of Hyperscience. “I’m confident that our new partnership with Bessemer, and having Mary on our side, makes our business better positioned for what’s ahead.”
Prior to Bessemer, Mary worked in Equity Capital Markets at Morgan Stanley. She holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management and graduated cum laude with an A.B. in Politics from Princeton University.
As a vice president, Mary will continue to build out Bessemer's growth investments and partner with companies across the firm’s cloud, developer, and data privacy roadmaps.
